Overview
"Where should we get dessert?" has the exact same group-decision problem as dinner, just with a narrower, more specific category: boba, ice cream, shaved ice, and bakeries. Sweet Spot applies the same swipe-and-match model that worked for MunchMatch to that specific craving, packaged as a cross-platform app via Capacitor so it runs natively on iOS and Android, not just the web.
Key Features
Host or join a group: one person starts a session, others join to swipe together
Swipe interface: nearby dessert spots surfaced one at a time, each person votes independently
Real-time sync: Firebase keeps every group member's swipes in sync as they happen
Cross-platform: Capacitor wraps the same codebase into native iOS and Android builds
How It Works
1
Host starts a group and finds nearby dessert spots2
Friends join the group via a shared link or code3
Each person swipes independently on their own device4
Firebase syncs votes across the group in real time5
Mutual matches are revealed once everyone finishesTechnical Decisions
Built on the MunchMatch foundation: the group-swipe-and-match mechanic was already validated, so Sweet Spot reuses that architecture and narrows the scope to a dessert-specific experience rather than rebuilding the pattern from scratch.
Capacitor for cross-platform delivery: wrapping the same web codebase for iOS and Android avoids maintaining separate native apps while still producing real, installable mobile builds.
Firebase for real-time group state: group swiping only works if everyone's votes sync live, and Firebase Realtime DB handles that without a custom backend.
What's Next
- Expand category filters beyond boba, ice cream, shaved ice, and bakeries
- Publish the Capacitor builds to the App Store and Google Play
- Persistent group history so friends can revisit past matches
